Beautiful Blogger Award

It’s been almost a week since Amalia bestowed upon me the honorable Beautiful Blogger award. It’s the kind of thing that you’re supposed to pass around, so that awesome people can find more awesome people to hang out with here in Internet Land. There is also a requirement of divulging seven interesting facts about yourself, so let’s make that happen first.

  1. I was almost named Vanessa but at the last minute my parents went with Valerie. They unknowingly helped avoid future confusion because my sister-in-law’s name is Vanessa and now we share a last name.
  2. I am allergic to avocados. They don’t give me hives or anything, they just make me throw up.
  3. I wrote my first short story in first grade. It was about aliens trying to steal my skin, and how I cunningly fooled them by giving them a sheet of skin-colored paper instead.
  4. I have visited more countries in Europe (Britain, Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, and Switzerland) than states in the United States (Florida, California, Texas, Georgia and New York).
  5. I met my husband in the fourth grade. We had to sit in alphabetical order, so he was behind me. He claims that he initially hated me because I was the only person who could spell as well as he did.
  6. I have four cats, all named after fictional characters. My cat Carrot may be orange, but he is not named for the vegetable; his full name is Captain Carrot Ironfoundersson.
  7. I have a signed picture of Danny Trejo in my office at home. He dotted the “i” in my name with a heart.

    Why thank you so much for this great award! This is the second time I have received it and I am truly grateful to get it from a new friend!

    Hope you don’t mind, but at one point I did write things about myself on my blog in response to other awards. I’m sure people don’t want to go and hear more! :)

    Loved learning those seven things about you. :)

    Only learned to enjoy eating avocados as an adult. For me it was a texture thing. They were too slimy, but now they’re just delicious.

    I love your list, especially #3. On #4, I have the same problem as you. I think it’s because I love ancient history and the states are too ‘new’.
