Octoberfest!

No, not the beer festival. If, like me, you’re preparing for the oncoming storm that is NaNoWriMo, have I got a post for you! Check out my Octoberfest guide to preparing for NaNo. I break it down into the order that I think is most helpful, with some links to other sites that have their own cool methods and approaches. If you have any questions, general or specific, comment away or email me and I’ll see what I can do to help. Allons-y!

    What? No beer? 😉
Your guide is an excellent one for preparing for nanowrimo!

  2. I’m ready!
And I’ll take a Corona with a lime, please.

Thanks Laura! I’m not saying you can’t have beer, of course. One Corona with lime, coming up! Any other requests? I’ve got an IPA or two that wants drinking…

Fantastic guide Valerie! I had bookmarked this one already, but it’s always good to remember what we’ve got on our sleeve, heh.

I’ll have to study it better to outline my nano project. Or should I go for pansting? Oh, dilema!

Some people love to pants, especially for NaNo because it’s such a rushed project anyway. There’s something extra exciting about writing so much in so little time and having almost no idea what you’re doing.

However! If you’re not just doing this for fun, and hope to come out of it with a decent draft, pantsing might not be the best approach. I feel like people who say they don’t plan actually DO plan in their heads while they’re writing, to a limited extent. This process is much more constrained when there isn’t time to let your brain do its thing.

  6. Great outline for NaNo or writing anything really. I’m a pantser myself, but this has made the wheels start turning!

Glad to help! Even if you don’t want to make a detailed outline, at least thinking things through in an organized fashion can be really useful.
